Carpet Beetles control in Auckland

Carpet beetle damage is usually blamed on clothes moths, and it is often the more likely culprit in New Zealand homes. It is the larvae that do the damage, not the adult beetle - small, bristly, slow-moving grubs that feed on wool, natural fibres, felt and anything containing keratin. They work in undisturbed places: under furniture, along carpet edges, in wardrobes and in stored woollens. Because the larvae avoid light and traffic, damage often goes unnoticed until furniture is moved or a stored garment comes out with holes in it.

Signs you have carpet beetles

  • Bare or thinning patches in wool carpet, usually under furniture or along edges
  • Irregular holes in stored woollens, felt or natural-fibre fabric
  • Small bristly larvae or shed larval skins in carpet edges and wardrobes
  • Small round beetles on windowsills, often the first sign anyone notices

Why it matters

  • Permanent damage to wool carpet, rugs and underlay
  • Damage to stored clothing, blankets and natural-fibre textiles
  • Larvae can persist for a long time in undisturbed areas
  • Bristles from the larvae irritate the skin for some people

How we treat carpet beetles

  1. 1

We treat carpet edges, under furniture, wardrobes and the undisturbed areas where larvae actually feed.

  2. 2

We check for the source - old bird or insect nests in a roof space are a common and overlooked reservoir.

  3. 3

We advise on cleaning and storage that removes the food source and stops it recurring.

What our customers say

It was the Sunday of a long weekend, and after having set off multiple bombs and cleaning for hours we realised we needed to get someone in. I expected to leave messages and hear back on the Tuesday - but no. Marie phoned me back about 15 minutes after I left the message. Half an hour later she called back - she had found one of your workers to come and spray our house that day. On a long weekend, on a Sunday, and at no extra cost. We were in a pretty dire situation, and the kindness and efficiency made the world of difference. The roaches moved out, and we now have a clean, happy home.

It's really hard when you've never had any pest issues before to know where to start. I rang several different companies but Marie's lovely calming and reassuring manner helped me choose you guys. Both Mike and Stuart have been fantastic to deal with - Mike has taken quite a few phone calls from me, I called him my bed bug counsellor! You've made a horrible stressful situation seem like it was all under control.

Carpet Beetles - common questions

Is it carpet beetle or clothes moth?
Clothes moth damage usually comes with fine silken webbing and small cases; carpet beetle damage comes with shed bristly skins and no webbing. It matters less than you would think - the treatment approach overlaps - but the identification helps us find the source.
Where are they coming from?
Frequently from an old bird nest or an accumulation of dead insects in a roof space or wall cavity, which is a perfect food source. If damage keeps recurring after treatment, that reservoir is usually the reason.
Will they damage synthetic carpet?
They feed on natural fibres, so pure synthetic carpet is largely safe. Wool and wool-blend carpets, which are very common in New Zealand homes, are the ones at risk.
