Stored Product Pests control in Auckland

Stored product pests are the insects that live in dry food - pantry moths, flour beetles, weevils and grain beetles. In a home they usually arrive already inside a packet from the supermarket, then spread through the pantry into flour, rice, cereal, dried fruit, nuts, spices and pet food. In a bakery, food manufacturer or warehouse the same insects are a much bigger problem, because they can establish in the fabric of the building and contaminate stock at volume. They are easy to miss early because the larvae are small and pale and stay inside the product.

Signs you have stored product pests

  • Small moths flying around the pantry, often at head height
  • Fine webbing inside packets, particularly in the corners and under the lid
  • Small beetles or weevils in flour, rice or grain
  • Clumping or webbing in dry goods
  • Larvae on pantry shelves or on the ceiling above the pantry

Why it matters

  • Contamination and loss of stored food
  • In food businesses, contaminated stock and a verification problem
  • Infestations spread through an entire pantry or store quickly
  • Populations can establish in cracks and voids, not just the product

How we treat stored product pests

  1. 1

We identify the species, which points to the likely source and how far it has spread.

  2. 2

We treat shelving, cracks, voids and the structure - not just the visible product.

  3. 3

We advise on which stock to discard and how to store what remains.

  4. 4

For commercial sites we can set up monitoring so the next one is caught early.

What our customers say

Stewart came and sprayed our home today for pantry moth. What a lovely man he was, so friendly and efficient. I was impressed with the service - a friendly phone lady, a friendly text message, a friendly man, and I came home to a warning on my door. I am thoroughly impressed.
Felicity HeavenPantry moth treatment
It was the Sunday of a long weekend, and after having set off multiple bombs and cleaning for hours we realised we needed to get someone in. I expected to leave messages and hear back on the Tuesday - but no. Marie phoned me back about 15 minutes after I left the message. Half an hour later she called back - she had found one of your workers to come and spray our house that day. On a long weekend, on a Sunday, and at no extra cost. We were in a pretty dire situation, and the kindness and efficiency made the world of difference. The roaches moved out, and we now have a clean, happy home.

Stored Product Pests - common questions

Where did pantry moths come from? My kitchen is clean.
Nearly always inside a packet bought at the shop. Eggs are already in the product when it comes home, then the moths emerge and spread to everything else. It is not a hygiene failure, though good storage is what stops it spreading.
Do I have to throw everything out?
Not everything - but anything showing webbing, clumping or live insects should go. Undamaged items are worth moving into sealed containers. We will help you work out what is affected.
How do I stop it happening again?
Airtight containers rather than original packaging, buying smaller quantities of things you use slowly, and keeping an eye on the items that sit at the back for months - flour, pet food, birdseed and spices are the usual reservoirs.
