Termites control in Auckland

Most people are surprised to learn New Zealand has termites at all. We do: the New Zealand drywood termite occurs throughout the country, and it lives in the same conditions that suit house borer and two-toothed longhorn beetle. Because of that overlap, drywood termites are rarely the only cause of damage in a building, and their presence is easily attributed to borer instead. They are also genuinely difficult to spot - exit holes are few and hard to see, so damage can spread well through a building before anyone realises there is a problem. Australian subterranean termites, the ones that destroy houses, are not established here.

Signs you have termites

  • Small, hard-to-see exit holes in timber
  • Timber that sounds hollow when tapped
  • Damage discovered during renovation or maintenance
  • Existing borer damage, since the conditions overlap

Why it matters

  • Structural weakening of building timbers
  • Damage is often well advanced before it is discovered
  • Easily misidentified as borer, which delays the right treatment

How we treat termites

  1. 1

We inspect and identify what is actually attacking the timber - termite, house borer or longhorn beetle - because the answer changes the treatment.

  2. 2

Timber treatment is applied appropriately for the species and the extent of the damage.

  3. 3

We advise on the moisture and ventilation conditions that make timber attractive in the first place.

What our customers say

It was the Sunday of a long weekend, and after having set off multiple bombs and cleaning for hours we realised we needed to get someone in. I expected to leave messages and hear back on the Tuesday - but no. Marie phoned me back about 15 minutes after I left the message. Half an hour later she called back - she had found one of your workers to come and spray our house that day. On a long weekend, on a Sunday, and at no extra cost. We were in a pretty dire situation, and the kindness and efficiency made the world of difference. The roaches moved out, and we now have a clean, happy home.

It's really hard when you've never had any pest issues before to know where to start. I rang several different companies but Marie's lovely calming and reassuring manner helped me choose you guys. Both Mike and Stuart have been fantastic to deal with - Mike has taken quite a few phone calls from me, I called him my bed bug counsellor! You've made a horrible stressful situation seem like it was all under control.

Termites - common questions

Does New Zealand actually have termites?
Yes. The New Zealand drywood termite occurs throughout the country. What we do not have established here are the Australian subterranean termites that cause catastrophic structural damage - so the risk is real but considerably lower than across the Tasman.
How do I tell termite damage from borer?
It is difficult without inspection, which is exactly why they get confused. Borer leaves distinctive flight holes with frass - a fine, gritty, orange-ish dust. Termite exit holes are fewer and harder to spot. If you have timber damage, it is worth having it identified before treating it.
